Windows Backup skipped [insert file location here] because it is on corrupted drive c:/
I tried to run windows 7 backup this morning for the first time, backing up to my secondary hard drive. However, I received the message that some files were skipped and it seems to be everything of value! Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Documents because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Public\Documents because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Music because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Public\Music because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Pictures because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Public\Pictures because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Videos because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Public\Videos because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\AppData\Roaming because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\AppData\Local because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\AppData\LocalLow because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Contacts because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Desktop because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Downloads because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Favorites because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Links because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Saved Games because is it on corrupted drive C:\. Windows Backup skipped C:\Users\Lisa\Searches because is it on corrupted drive C:\. What on earth is wrong? There doesn't appear to be any problems with my hard drive, and I can access any of the files currently in those libraries with no problems, as well as saving to those libraries with no problems.

I'm now having that problem, too. I ran CHKDSK, but no problems were found. EDIT: Nevermind. I received an alert in my tray about a maintenance problem and an error on my disk. I rebooted and I just manually did a backup and it completed OK. EDIT: Well, it's doing it again. It's skipping the Users\Username directory so this still needs to be fixed.

Hi,Is your problem solved? If it skips certain folders, the skip file notification would contain the detailed error message. This posting is provided "AS IS" without warranties and confers no rights.

I have the same problem. After reading your recommendation I tried to launch cmd.exe and run chkdsk.exe /r from there, but I was given a message that I have to run in elevated mode - no sufficient priviliges. How can I do that? Thanks Alex.

I am having the exact same issue, I have run chkdsk and it did not give any errors. It would seem like most of the directories it complains are corrupt are ones I have told it to skip. However, not all are.

I'm having the exact same problem. My system was fine for 3 months and now suddenly it thinks it's corrupt. Chkdsk gives no errors. help!

I no longer get the error. It was like it went away on it's on. I ran CHKDSK every time I got the error and restarted the PC and that was it. I still have no clue what caused it or how to fix it.

I too experienced the above concern and eventually decided to insert a blank dvd-r and try to back-up once again. Problem appears to be sorted - back-up is 100% successful! Am awash with relief!! Hope this works for you too.

I have the same problem here. It started a week ago - I tried chkdsk - no errors were found. Inserting blank DVD didn't help either. Did someone find a solution of this problem?

It started happening to me tonight, after 6 months of successful backups. This is just ridiculous - my disks are not corrupted and I don't understand what is causing the problem! Any help from Microsoft?

Same problem here, every time the backup is scheduled to run (Sundays at 3pm). Windows 7 x64.

I'm having same problem. Backup scheduled for early Sunday morning, and every Sunday it is the same thing. It skips all files because they are all corrupted. A manual backup gives the same results. When I then go to restart my computer, it detects the "corruptions" and checkdisk runs automatically. It finds no errors. I can then do a manual backup just fine. But by the next week, when the automatic backup runs, it is back to giving the corrupt error again. Frustrating!! Also Windows 7 x64

Same Problem here, but compounded because I am unable to run checkdisk! Backup shows exact info as others in this thread. Then when I run checkdisk it "freezes" with one second remaining before launching the check, and it stays frozen. The first time this happened, I left the computer alone for 16 hours, and it remained frozen. I needed to manually shut it down. Then upon restart it booted right up. I've tried backup again....same problem showing corrupted files. I've tried running checkdisk three times....always freezes. NOTE: THIS PROBLEM BEGAN WHEN I UPGRADED FROM VISTA TO WINDOWS 7, SIX WEEJS AGO. I am experiencing no other issues with this computer. hp dv5. The hp "healthcheck" runs smoothly and shows no problems with any component of this computer. I have been running backups in Vista with absolutely no problems. Can anyone help? Also windows 7 x64

My solution: As I mentioned above, I had the exact same problem. It began shortly after I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. The scheduled backup would keep failing, the same error listed in the first post. Additionally, every time I restarted my computer, it would give me an error about my harddrive and automatically go into CheckDisk mode. It would find no problems. But after checkdisk ran, I could backup without any error and I could restart my computer without error. The "corruption" was magically fixed. But the fix only lasted for about 4-5 days, and then the problem would repeat itself. I tried the following, with no success: I ran checkdisk manually, including all the special suffixes (like /r) to automatically fix errors. No change. I ran every Dell diagnostic program I could find, and no errors could be found with the hardware. I ran the WD harddrive diagnostic program, from their website, and no problems could be found with the harddrive. I updated all of my drivers and my BIOS. No change. Finally, I formatted my harddrive and reinstalled Windows 7. The problem is solved. That was over a month ago, and no issues since then. But I think this makes it clear that this is a windows problem, not a hardware problem. Not an ideal solution, but it worked.

Same issue here, machine has run Windows 7x64 since I bought it last July, never had a backup problem. This week I got the same corruption message listed many times above. Tried all of the above recommendations, except formatting my hard drive, since I had erased my previous backup to make space for my new backup!,

I had the same issue. It seems to be due to a problem with how I partitioned and formatted the external backup hard drive I was using. I had partitioned a 500GB drive into two 250 GB partitions using the Master Boot Record partitioning scheme, then formatted the two partitions as FAT32 (done on a Mac). I then connected the drive via USB2 to a Windows laptop running 64-bit Windows 7 Pro and tried making a backup to the second partition using Windows Backup. It didn't work at all -- Backup instantly said "The backup failed." So I used Windows 7 itself to format the second partition to NTFS instead, then tried backing up to that NTFS partition. This time the backup failed with the cascade of "corrupted drive C:" messages seen by others in this thread. So for my third try, I repartitioned the drive to one big 500GB MBR partition, formatted that single partition as Fat32 (again on a Mac), then reconnected the drive to the Windows 7 laptop and tried running Backup again. This time the backup worked with no problems. So although Backup does a very poor job of reporting what's wrong, IMHO the solution lies in using a backup drive partitioning scheme and formatting method that Backup will accept.

I had this same problem and it was because of some files I got from a co-worker that were encrypted. You can tell a file is encrypted because in windows explorer the file name and details are in green font instead of black. I unencrypted them and the next day I got the backup error. I right clicked the drive in windows explorer and chose properties, then tools tab, then check disc for errors. It reported and listed all the files that I had unencrypted. It said it fixed them and moved unfixable files to a folder called "found", which I couldn’t find. I then ran a manual back up and everything was fine. It appears that there is a possible bug in the back up service/app for windows 7 pertaining to how the OS handles file encryption / unencryption. Hope this helps someone. Cheers, Dj
